I spent 44 years in Africa; in Sierra Leone, Senegal, Cameroon and Ghana.  I am eternally grateful to the Lord for having given me a Hospitaller and Missionary vocation with Saint John of God.  I feel this is the greatest gift I have received from Jesus Christ, since he was the first Missionary.

I was never happier than during my years in those various countries.  To be able to live together with such poor people and to be able to help them fill so many of their needs —that swells your heart.

I remember with special warmth the Sundays and the holidays, because of the fervor and joy with which they participated in the Holy mass, with their songs and their dances.  The children, once they had received their First Communion, almost always continued to come and join in.

My Missionary work consisted in consultation and in the operating room, plus three days a week I would visit some distant villages far away from the Hospital.  But recently I was diagnosed with cancer; I was obliged to come back from Senegal, and two months ago underwent surgery myself.  This has meant I could not return to my field but I will continue helping as best I can from here in Spain, sending food and charity contributions: my heart and my mind are still back in the Africa I love so much, and they will always be there.
